Iran Closes French Embassy-Affiliated Center in Tehran

Al-Taj News – Iranian authorities on Sunday closed a French language teaching center in Tehran on the grounds that it was engaged in activities hostile to the country’s culture.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported on Sunday, citing the Tehran Prosecutor General’s Office, that Iranian authorities had closed a French language teaching center affiliated with the French Embassy in Tehran pursuant to a judicial order.

Iranian authorities said the center had operated for years under the guise of teaching a foreign language, despite receiving repeated warnings that it needed to obtain a license. They accused it of engaging in activities against Iranian culture and national security, as well as facilitating the departure from the country of Iranians with expertise and skills.
