Trump: “Fake News” Is a Threat to National Security

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that “fake news” poses a threat to national security, stressing the need to “put an end to it.”

Trump added that “the White House is not attacking the free press, but rather the false news that is widespread in the United States.”

On Friday, Trump issued a decision to “ban access” to CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House.

In response, the three US news organizations that Trump barred from entering the White House filed a lawsuit seeking to restore their access to the White House.

The emergency request is expected to be presented to a federal judge in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, which could lead to hearings and legal arguments by the administration as early as this week.

The three news organizations said in a joint statement on Monday: “We notified the government this morning that we will file a lawsuit today to protect our rights under the First Amendment to the Constitution and to defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes.”
