US State Department Denies Reports of Rubio’s Intention to Resign

Al-Taj News – The US Department of State denied, on Thursday, the validity of reports speaking of Secretary Marco Rubio’s intention to resign from his position in preparation for running in the 2028 US presidential election.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs Dylan Johnson said via the “X” platform, commenting on a report by the British newspaper “The Independent”: “This is completely baseless fake news, relying on fabricated anonymous sources.”

Johnson described the report as a “completely fabricated hoax,” confirming that the Department will return to discuss it in the coming weeks “to celebrate another embarrassing own-goal scored by The Independent.”

The British newspaper had reported, in a report published on Thursday quoting high-level sources in the United States and the British government, that Rubio is preparing to leave President Donald Trump’s administration in preparation for competing for the Republican Party’s nomination for the 2028 presidential election.
