Al-Sharaa: The Golan Heights Are Syrian Land — No Discussion on the Matter

Al-Taj News – Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa affirmed early Wednesday that the Golan Heights are Syrian land in accordance with United Nations resolutions, and that there is no room for discussion on the matter, noting that “we may need an international committee to examine Israel’s security concerns and distinguish between genuine concerns and perceptions.”

He added: “I believe we are facing a historic moment that can benefit all parties,” and that if the security arrangements succeed, it would be possible to move on to discussing a lasting peace. He explained that Syria has chosen a diplomatic path and resorted to dialogue despite Israel’s occupation of part of its territory, and that the condition for peace with Israel is “that our rights be guaranteed, not that our lands be occupied.”

On the economic front, the Syrian president said that Syria is working to secure a safe corridor for Iraqi products, particularly oil, through Syrian territory, and that there is a project to build an oil pipeline from Iraqi oil fields to Syrian ports.

Regarding the situation in Lebanon, Al-Sharaa said that “Syria seeks to assist the Lebanese government as much as possible and enable state institutions to carry out their duties.”

As for sovereignty and foreign presence, the Syrian president said that Syria’s approach is to clear the country of foreign bases, stressing that he does not want a system of quotas based on ethnicity, geography, or religion that would lead to the division of Syria.
