Mentioned Nearly 900 Times in 2026: Biden, the Ever-Present Adversary in Trump’s Speeches

Nearly 20 months after leaving the White House, former US President Joe Biden remains a prominent presence in President Donald Trump’s rhetoric, with Trump mentioning his predecessor’s name nearly 900 times since the beginning of the year, according to a Reuters review.

The review showed that Trump referred to Biden 890 times during 200 events and interviews, as well as in around 190 posts on the Truth Social platform. At least 210 of these references came in the context of discussions about the economy, 168 in relation to immigration issues, and 138 in foreign policy and national security.

Trump blames the Biden administration for a wide range of problems, from rising prices and immigration to ammunition shortages and international crises involving Iran and Ukraine.

Trump told Republican supporters at a campaign rally in Dallas this month that Democrats “gave you disasters, chaos, and death for four years under Sleepy Joe Biden.”

Republican analyst Ryan Williams said Trump “always needs an adversary,” adding that the president can use that “to try to divert attention from any problems he is currently facing.”

The economy is the foremost issue in which Trump invokes Biden’s name, and as confidence in Trump’s handling of the economy declines, the president continues to blame his predecessor for the rising cost of living.

Trump wrote on Truth Social last week: “I hope everyone realizes that the rising prices all over America were caused by Sleepy Joe Biden and his administration, and not by Trump.”
