“Standards and Metrology”: 5,000 Expired Tires and 300 Counterfeit Rims Seized in Amman

Al-Taj News – The personnel of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization seized 5,000 expired vehicle tires and 300 rims bearing counterfeit names of global brands.

The organization said in a statement that the seized items were confiscated during an inspection raid, with the support of security agencies, covering 4 tire sales and storage locations in the capital, Amman.

It explained that the tires had been improperly stored and concealed inside secret warehouses that lacked the minimum safety standards.

The organization indicated that the inspection teams faced resistance aimed at preventing them from opening the warehouses and concealing the violations, but the determination of the organization’s personnel and the support of the security agencies prevented this.

It confirmed that the seizure prevented the violating tires from reaching citizens’ vehicles, noting that the strictest legal measures will be taken against the violators in accordance with the provisions of Standards and Metrology Law No. 22 of 2000 and its amendments.

The organization called on citizens to pay attention when purchasing tires and to make sure to read the 4-digit production date engraved on the side of the tire; the first two digits indicate the week of manufacture, while the last two digits indicate the year of manufacture. For example, the number “2526” indicates the twenty-fifth week of 2026.

It also called for avoiding the purchase of tires that have been stored for long periods, even if they appear new, stressing the need to store them in shaded and dry places, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and chemicals such as oils and solvents, which may cause the rubber to crack and deteriorate prematurely.
