Brazilian President: The United Nations Is Failing in One of Its Most Important Tasks, Saving Humanity

Al-Taj News – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva affirmed on Tuesday in his speech before the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York that diplomacy remains the only option for resolving international conflicts, stressing that everyone knows for certain that “there will be no victor on the battlefield.”

Lula da Silva, who was the first speaker among the leaders of countries during the annual session, said that “the world has become hostage to the Security Council’s inaction and its failure to fulfill its fundamental role in maintaining peace.”

The Brazilian president also expressed deep concern over the deviation of strategic paths in the region, warning that “the Strait of Hormuz has become a battlefield at a time when it should have remained a vital passage for international trade and energy supplies.”

He affirmed that the United Nations is failing in one of its most important tasks, which is saving humanity, noting that the world has become “hostage to the Security Council’s inability to fulfill its duty.”

He criticized the practices of the occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly the West Bank, affirming that “the occupation’s measures in the West Bank directly undermine the prospects for achieving a two-state solution” and increase the risks of instability in the Middle East.

These statements, coinciding with the opening of the General Assembly’s proceedings, highlight the growing international positions calling for restoring the importance of political dialogue and avoiding harm to global shipping and the world economy.
