Al-Taj News – The city of Aqaba hosted the first Amwaj Plus concert on Friday, August 28, 2026, featuring Saudi artist Khalid Abdulrahman and Jordanian artist Diana Karazon, marking the launch of a series of major concerts and entertainment events that the city will host as part of the Amwaj Plus program.
The launch of Amwaj Plus comes as part of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority’s approach to developing and diversifying the city’s events ecosystem and strengthening Aqaba’s position as a destination capable of attracting visitors throughout the year from various governorates across the Kingdom, as well as regional markets and neighboring countries.
The concert was held at the Aqaba Equestrian Club, where the audience enjoyed an artistic evening during which Diana Karazon performed a selection of her works, before Khalid Abdulrahman took to the stage and performed a selection of his most prominent songs that audiences have known throughout his artistic career.
The launch of the Amwaj Plus Festival comes within a vision that seeks to utilize major artistic events as one of the drivers supporting tourism and economic activity in Aqaba. Attracting visitors to attend events has an impact on various components of the city’s tourism and services sector, including hotels, restaurants, transportation, retail, and other activities associated with the visitor experience.
The diverse events calendar also contributes to providing renewed reasons to visit Aqaba throughout the year, extending visitors’ stays, and enhancing the city’s ability to attract new segments of the public, including visitors from neighboring countries and regional markets.
The first Amwaj Plus concert represents an extension of the Aqaba Events Calendar vision launched by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority last June, with the aim of bringing together and enhancing the various events and activities hosted by the city under a unified platform, ranging from cultural, entertainment, and sports events to family experiences and tourism and community initiatives.
Dr. Thabet Al-Nabulsi, Commissioner for Tourism and Youth Affairs at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, said: “We view events as an essential part of Aqaba’s tourism experience and its ability to attract visitors throughout the year. The launch of Amwaj Plus represents a new step in our efforts to build a diverse calendar of activities and events that give visitors more reasons to choose Aqaba, while at the same time supporting economic activity and the tourism and services sectors in the city.”
He added: “We aspire for Aqaba to continue strengthening its position as a regional tourism and entertainment destination, and for major events to become a complementary element of the visitor’s experience in the city, alongside Aqaba’s distinctive beaches, diverse tourism experiences, and growing hospitality sector.”
Amwaj Plus events and concerts are scheduled to continue in the coming period, with programs and dates to be announced successively.
