
Al-Taj News – The Association of Banks in Jordan and the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company provided financial contributions to support a group of projects related to the development of lands adjacent to the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ, “Al-Maghtas,” and Bethany Village, as part of preparations for 2030, which marks 2,000 years since the baptism of Jesus Christ.
The Development Corporation for Lands Adjacent to the Baptism Site said that the contributions will be allocated to implementing the design of the green area, conducting studies to develop a sustainable transportation system that contributes to facilitating access and improving the visitor experience, in addition to preparing designs and a work plan to establish a facility for sorting, packaging, and marketing local agricultural products.
The contributions also include implementing programs to train and empower the local community, developing products inspired by the identity of the site and local crafts, as well as developing an e-commerce system.
The Association of Banks in Jordan and the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company did not announce the value of the financial contributions provided to support these projects.
These contributions come in conjunction with the launch of the national project for developing lands adjacent to the Baptism Site, which includes a package of projects with a total cost of approximately $120 million, covering an area of up to 1,400 dunums.
The projects include preparing designs for the Baptism of Jesus Christ Museum, at a cost of $50 million, designs for establishing an integrated village for pilgrims and visitors at an estimated cost of approximately $40 million, in addition to carrying out infrastructure works at a cost of $27 million, and establishing the green corridor at an estimated cost of $3 million.
According to the project’s timeline, preparatory works for the museum and integrated village for pilgrims and visitors projects are scheduled to begin at the end of the first quarter of 2027, with major construction works scheduled to begin at the end of the second quarter of the same year, while the two projects are expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2029.
