Trump: Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement Reflects Growing Rapprochement in the Middle East

US President Donald Trump welcomed the recent signing by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan of the “Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement,” saying that the agreement reflects the growing rapprochement in the Middle East.

Trump described the agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye as a “bold, big, and important first step,” noting that the “Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement” demonstrates how countries can defend themselves.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Saturday that Egypt is expected to join the mutual defense agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye “in the next phase.”

In a separate development, Trump criticized the United States’ longstanding participation in joint military exercises with South Korea, announcing that he had ordered a significant reduction in the scale of these exercises.

He said he had instructed the Secretary of War to take measures that would significantly reduce the scale of joint military exercises with South Korea.

In the same context, Trump affirmed that he has a “very good relationship” with the North Korean leader.
