Congress: War on Iran Cost the United States $38 Billion

Al-Taj News – The Congressional Budget Office reported on Tuesday that the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February cost Washington approximately $38 billion through August 1.

The office said in a report, “As of August 1, 2026, the cost of the Iran war to the Department of Defense amounted to approximately $38 billion.”

It added that the monthly cost of the war could range between $2 billion and $3 billion, depending on the intensity of military operations, if the conflict between the two sides continues.

These reciprocal strikes come amid stalled diplomatic efforts to end the war and Washington’s declaration of an “economic war” against Iran, which included tightening sanctions imposed on it and on countries that deal with it, with the aim of “economically strangling it.”

The United States had announced the expansion of the scope of secondary sanctions that could be imposed on entities and countries maintaining trade relations with Iran around the world as part of the “Economic Outcast” operation against Iran, at a time when Washington is significantly escalating its economic pressure on Tehran.

Between July 8 and 24, the United States resumed its attacks on Iran, while Tehran responded by attacking countries in the region, before talks resumed on safe passageways for ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
