Opening of the 11th Jordan International Film Festival

Al-Taj News – Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh patronized the opening ceremony of the 11th edition of the Jordan International Film Festival on Sunday evening at the main theater of the Royal Cultural Center in Amman.

In a speech delivered at the ceremony, attended by the ministry’s Secretary-General Nidal Al-Ahmad and Jordanian Artists Syndicate President Hani Al-Jarrah, Al-Rawashdeh stressed that the importance of the Jordan International Film Festival is reflected in the efforts and perseverance of artists to present new works in form and content, offer aesthetic proposals and innovative approaches, and promote the renewed visions embodied by the festival, which are based on the visual narration of stories, narratives, facts, and events.

At the opening ceremony, which honors director and film critic Adnan Madanat as the personality of this edition, he noted that the significance of this edition comes as it coincides with the ministry’s attention to and adoption of the Jordanian Narrative Program proposed by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II from the city of Tafilah. He stressed that the Jordanian narrative is closely linked to filmmaking as the cognitive, intellectual, and historical framework that gives cinematic texts their local and global identity and depth.

He also affirmed that the film industry contributes to strengthening the identity that connects human history with people’s lives, values, customs, traditions, details of their daily lives, and their connection to place, noting that the importance of the festival lies in employing stories and all elements of film material as means of documenting Jordanian historical, social, and cultural heritage, both past and present.
