Al-Safadi: Israel Will Undermine Chances for Peace Unless It Faces a Deterrent International Response

Al-Taj News – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi said that Israel will continue its policies and measures that undermine the chances of achieving peace unless it faces an effective international response that translates the international community’s support for the two-state solution into practical steps to deter it.

During an intervention at a meeting marking one year since the New York Declaration Conference, organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France, Al-Safadi warned that the Israeli government is working to undermine the two-state solution, which is the only path to peace, through its illegal measures, at a time when the international community is seeking to achieve a just peace.

Al-Safadi said during the meeting, organized by France, Britain, Canada, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that Israel is declaring its disregard for the positions of the majority of countries around the world that support the two-state solution because it has not been held accountable for measures that undermine the chances of achieving peace and has not been confronted with deterrent international measures.

Al-Safadi commended the positions of countries that recognized the State of Palestine and took measures against Israeli policies, stressing at the same time the need to take broader and stronger measures to confront settlement expansion, land confiscation, and the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting was opened by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Antie Burnham, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan, in the presence of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
