Jordan at the United Nations: Intensive Diplomatic Efforts to Support Palestine and UNRWA

The Palestinian cause, support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and the protection of children and humanitarian workers are at the forefront of an intensive Jordanian diplomatic effort during the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, in which Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi is participating.
The Jordanian program includes a series of ministerial meetings and high-level talks focusing on developments in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip; support for UNRWA; strengthening commitment to international humanitarian law; protecting humanitarian workers; and supporting international efforts aimed at implementing the two-state solution.
On the UNRWA file, Safadi will co-chair with Spain and Brazil, on Thursday, the annual ministerial meeting in support of the agency and to mobilize political and financial support for it, with the participation of the United Nations Secretary-General, as part of efforts to ensure continued support for the agency and enable it to continue providing services to Palestinian refugees.
Jordan, along with Belgium and the European Union, will co-host on Wednesday a high-level event on the “Call to Action for Palestinian Children in the West Bank and Gaza Strip,” amid international efforts to strengthen the protection of Palestinian children and respond to their humanitarian needs.
Safadi will participate in the annual coordination meeting of foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which will be held at the United Nations headquarters during the high-level week and will discuss developments in the West Bank and Jerusalem. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has not yet specified the date of the meeting in its published schedule.
Safadi will also participate on Thursday in the high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, as part of international efforts aimed at advancing peace based on the two-state solution.
