Sisi and bin Salman Stress the Need to Protect Navigation in the Red Sea

Al-Taj News – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman stressed on Tuesday the importance of ensuring freedom and security of maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Straits of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, amid regional developments and current challenges.

This came during talks held between El-Sisi and bin Salman in Egypt, which addressed bilateral relations and a number of regional files and issues.

Egyptian Presidency spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy said that the two sides stressed the need to intensify coordination and communication between the two countries in light of the current regional circumstances.

He added that the talks reaffirmed the Egyptian-Saudi position on ensuring the freedom and security of maritime navigation in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb and in the Red Sea.

El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s support for the measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its security and stability and to reach a comprehensive and sustainable political solution to the Yemeni crisis.

The meeting saw agreement that the security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states is part of Egypt’s national security, with Egypt reaffirming its rejection and condemnation of any attacks or threats that undermine Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and stability, the safety of its territory, or freedom of navigation in international waterways.
