Al-Taj News – Spanish player Alexia Putellas won the 2026 Ballon d’Or award for the world’s best female player for the third time in her career, during the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony held on Monday evening in the British capital, London.
Putellas added the award to her record of individual achievements, having previously won the Ballon d’Or in 2021 and 2022, returning to the podium after an absence of four years.
The Spanish player equaled the record held by her compatriot Aitana Bonmatí, who won the award three consecutive times in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Putellas’s triumph came after a season full of achievements with Spanish club Barcelona, during which she helped the team win the Spanish Women’s League, the Copa de la Reina, and the Spanish Super Cup, in addition to the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
