Al-Taj News – The Portuguese Football Federation decided on Monday to suspend Cristiano Ronaldo for 30 days after he left the senior national team’s training camp following a dispute with coach Jorge Jesus over his role in the team.
The federation’s disciplinary council said it had upheld the charge against the 41-year-old forward and imposed a fine of €255 ($285.83).
Ronaldo left Portugal’s team hotel in Copenhagen before its match against Denmark in the Nations League earlier this month, after twice accusing Jesus of failing to honor his promise regarding his role in the team, following his remaining on the bench without playing against Norway.
Jesus denied reaching any agreement with Ronaldo but left the door open for his return after Portugal’s 2-1 victory.
The non-professional affairs division of the disciplinary council concluded that Ronaldo had deliberately committed an offense under Article 160(1) of the federation’s disciplinary regulations.
