Al-Hilal Files Complaint with Saudi Football Federation over Offensive Chants Against Neves

Al-Taj News – Al-Hilal club expressed its rejection of offensive chants by a section of Al-Taawoun fans targeting Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves and filed a complaint with the Saudi Football Federation.

Some Al-Taawoun fans attempted to provoke Ruben Neves by chanting “Jota, Jota,” referring to the late Liverpool player, who had a close friendship with Ruben Neves.

Ruben Neves appeared angry at the chant and pointed to the sky during the match, which ended with Al-Hilal winning 6-0.

Al-Hilal said in a statement that such behavior “crosses the boundaries of sporting competition and is inconsistent with the values and ethics that should prevail in stadiums.”

The “Leader” added: “Insulting players or their families and exploiting their personal and human circumstances cannot be a means of provocation or encouragement,” stressing the need to “provide a sporting environment based on respect and dignity for all those involved in the game, regardless of the intensity of the competition.”

Al-Hilal revealed that it had begun taking formal measures by filing a complaint with the Saudi Football Federation regarding the incident, “to safeguard the rights of the club and its players.”

Al-Hilal affirmed its confidence in the competent authorities to take the necessary measures, noting that “firm action against such violations strengthens the values of sportsmanship and protects the image of Saudi competition, particularly with the growing presence of Saudi sports on the global stage.”
