Labor: Social Security Subscription Does Not Exempt Non-Jordanian Workers from Work Permits

Al-Taj News – The Ministry of Labor confirmed that the subscription of a non-Jordanian worker to social security does not exempt them from the necessity of obtaining a valid work permit, nor does it constitute a substitute for it.

The media spokesperson for the ministry, Mohammad Al-Ziyoud, said that subscription to social security is a legal obligation aimed at providing insurance protection for the worker, while the work permit is an official document issued by the Ministry of Labor authorizing the non-Jordanian worker to work legally in the Kingdom, in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Law and the regulations and instructions issued pursuant thereto.

Al-Ziyoud explained that anyone who does not hold a Jordanian national identification number and enters the labor market is obligated to obtain a work permit, with the exception of the children of Jordanian women.

He stressed that a worker’s possession of a social security number does not exempt them from legal accountability in the event they are caught working without a permit, pointing out that the ministry’s inspection teams are continuing their field tours to verify the compliance of workers and employers, and to take legal measures against violators from both parties.

Al-Ziyoud called on non-Jordanian workers and employers to rectify their status and issue or renew work permits, in order to preserve their rights and avoid legal accountability and deportation.

He affirmed that the ministry is moving forward with regulating and protecting the labor market, ensuring the rights of production partners and enhancing employment opportunities for Jordanians.
