Amman Municipality: 1,800 sanitation workers employed by 3 cleaning companies contracted through Amman Vision Company in the capital

Al-Taj News – Deputy City Director for District Affairs at the Greater Amman Municipality, Mohammad Al-Faouri, said that the Municipality has contracted, through Amman Vision Company, with 3 companies to provide cleaning services, noting that the number of sanitation workers employed in these services amounts to approximately 1,800 workers.

Al-Faouri added that ground cleaning services, which include sweeping and litter collection, have been transferred to the companies in 17 areas within the boundaries of the Greater Amman Municipality, while the Municipality’s staff continue to work in other areas, in addition to intervening when needed.

Al-Faouri affirmed that the distribution of sanitation workers and cleaning machinery across the various areas of the capital is based on standards and studies that take into account population numbers, population and urban density, the area of the districts, the number of existing and licensed buildings, in addition to the quantities of waste produced daily.

Regarding waste collection and the schedules for the passage of vehicles, Al-Faouri said that determining collection times, vehicle routes, and the frequency of their rounds is based on studies that take into account the volume of waste in each area, pointing out that studies indicate that the average amount of waste produced by an individual in Jordan ranges between 800 and 900 grams per day.

He explained that the quantities of waste collected by Amman Municipality’s vehicles from its areas amount to approximately 3,500 tons per day.

He added that the Municipality’s fleet includes approximately 215 vehicles for collecting and transporting waste, including compactor trucks, compression vehicles, and grinding vehicles, noting that traffic congestion and technical malfunctions may sometimes cause delays in some vehicles reaching their routes. However, these delays are temporary, while work is underway to provide alternative vehicles to ensure the continuity of the service.
