Government Source: Dissolution of Chambers of Commerce Boards Is in Line with the Law

Al-Taj News – An official government source said that the Cabinet’s decision to dissolve the boards of directors of chambers of commerce nearly two months before the scheduled date of their elections is in line with the provisions of the law, and comes as part of governance of the electoral process and to allow those wishing to run for office to prepare for and manage the elections.

The source noted that, while the government was reviewing the issue of chamber of industry and chamber of commerce elections in July in preparation for holding them, it determined that the dissolution should take place at least two months before the scheduled date of the elections, as part of governance and to ensure that there are no conflicts of interest.

The source explained that chamber of industry elections precede chamber of commerce elections by two months, so it was not possible to dissolve their boards more than one month before the elections, as the elections will be held at the beginning of next month.

He stressed that the two-month period is sufficient to prepare for the elections with complete neutrality and transparency, and in accordance with the provisions of the relevant legislation.
