Jordan’s Foreign Minister: Israeli Government Must Face Consequences for Its Violations
Al-Taj News – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said on Tuesday that the Israeli government must face “real consequences” for its extremist policies and violations of international law, stressing that it should not be allowed to condemn the region and its peoples to more wars and suffering.
In a post on the “X” platform, Safadi welcomed the measures announced by the British government against illegal Israeli actions and policies that entrench the occupation, undermine the two-state solution, and perpetuate injustice, thanking the British government for “standing on the side of justice.”
He also thanked Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden for announcing their intention to take similar measures and renew their support for the two-state solution.
Safadi also thanked Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, and other countries for the measures they have already taken.
He said that settlement expansion, settler terrorism, land confiscation, inhumane treatment of Palestinians, and the strangling of the Palestinian economy “will not bring peace and security,” nor will violations of the historical and legal status quo at the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He stressed that there is only one path to achieving a just and lasting peace that guarantees security for all, namely “ending the illegal occupation of Palestine and implementing the two-state solution.”
He added that systematic violations of international law and measures that undermine the prospects for peace cannot be allowed to continue, calling on the international community to take effective action to prevent the Israeli government from continuing to undermine the two-state solution and the right of all peoples of the region to live in security and peace.
Jordan on Tuesday welcomed Britain’s decision to impose a trade ban on products from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, as well as measures targeting services that enable the provision of financing and facilitate the expansion of settlements or the construction of new settlements; a step that is consistent with international law and international legitimacy resolutions, and contributes to countering illegal Israeli actions, settlement expansion, and settler terrorism, which undermine the two-state solution and prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
