Public Works Completes 8 Projects to Address Damage Caused by Storms and Landslides

Al-Taj News – The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has completed 8 central projects to address the effects of weather depressions and landslides on the road network during the current year.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, its data showed the implementation of 32 road projects with a total value of 23.3 million dinars and a combined length exceeding 92 kilometers, in addition to 8 lighting projects at a cost exceeding one million dinars.

The statement explained that the public works directorates in the governorates carried out a wide campaign to clean and maintain rainwater drainage facilities as part of preparations for the rainy season. The campaign included cleaning box and pipe culverts in various governorates across the Kingdom.

The ministry’s road network includes more than 5,400 box and pipe culverts, as part of a periodic program aimed at maintaining the efficiency of drainage facilities and enhancing their readiness to handle rainfall.

It added that the works included constructing new culverts and expanding existing ones, implementing drainage channels, side ditches and retaining walls, as well as addressing dozens of hotspots and sites identified based on observations recorded during previous seasons.

It noted that these works were accompanied by enhancing the readiness of operations rooms, technical personnel, machinery and equipment, and completing the cleaning of drains, culverts, and valleys and flood channels, in a way that strengthens the ministry’s ability to deal with various weather conditions and respond quickly to any emergency during the rainy season.
