JMD activates new rainfall station to improve precipitation data collection
AMMAN — The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) on Wednesday operated a new rainfall observation station in Amman’s Wadi Saqra area as part of efforts to enhance the Kingdom’s weather tracking network.
The new facility aims to improve precipitation data collection and map rainfall distribution across the capital, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
JMD Director-General Raed Khattab said that activating the station falls under the department’s plan to bolster its technical capabilities and expand its field surveillance, stressing that a robust early warning system relies on an accurate, widespread observation network capable of delivering timely data.
Khattab added that data gathered from the stations forms the basis for weather forecasts and warnings, whilst enhancing the department’s ability to track impactful weather systems, thereby protecting lives and property and assisting relevant authorities in taking appropriate measure
