Princess Alia attends One Health, Veterinary Innovations conference
AMMAN — HRH Princess Alia on Monday attended the 3rd International Conference on One Health and Veterinary Innovations in Amman.
Organised by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), the three-day conference addresses key One Health issues, including zoonotic and emerging diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, climate change, and advances in diagnostics and therapeutics.
The event brings together researchers, experts and academics from Jordan, the UK, Portugal, Malaysia, Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Sudan and Lebanon, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
During the opening ceremony, JUST President Khaled Salem stressed the importance of the conference amid growing health and environmental challenges.
Salem said the One Health approach has become a necessity given the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health.
He noted that zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food safety and climate change directly affect public health, food security and social stability, requiring greater interdisciplinary cooperation.
Salem added that the conference aligns with national priorities and the Economic Modernisation Vision, particularly in the areas of quality of life, food security, innovation and sustainability.
He highlighted JUST’s diverse academic disciplines as an ideal environment for cross-sector collaboration, noting that the university’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the only such faculty in Jordan, operates one of the region’s leading veterinary hospitals.
Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Mayas Okush said the conference aims to translate the One Health concept into collaborative action by integrating veterinary medicine, public health and environmental sciences.
She noted that the programme includes scientific sessions, practical workshops and an exhibition showcasing pharmaceutical, diagnostic and technological innovations.
Following the opening ceremony, Princess Alia inaugurated the veterinary exhibition and received a commemorative medallion from Salem in recognition of her support for animal health and welfare.
