Renewed protests in Italian cities amid heavy security deployment and reports of violence

Al-Taj News – Major Italian cities witnessed, on Saturday, protests objecting to the war and the rising cost of living, some of which were marked by acts of violence, a week after unrest erupted across the country.

Authorities deployed large numbers of police, while many shops closed their doors as a precaution for fear of potential damage.

The demonstrations came following clashes that occurred early last week between protesters and police, which witnessed the looting of shops and vandalizing of property.

Demonstrations were characterized by violence in Turin, Rome, and Bologna, where confrontations broke out between security forces and protesters. As for Milan, the protests were largely peaceful.

Following the spread of calls across social media to organize more demonstrations during the current week, authorities took extensive security arrangements and deployed large numbers of police to prevent a recurrence of the acts of violence that took place early last week.
