Bayern Munich Overcomes Atletico Madrid and Returns to Winning Ways

Al-Taj News – German champions Bayern Munich halted their point-dropping run in the UEFA Champions League after defeating their host, Spain’s Atletico Madrid, 2-0 in the fourth round of the unified league phase on Tuesday.

The injury-plagued Bavarian giant, also affected by the absence of its Belgian manager Vincent Kompany, owed its victory to goals from youngster Lennart Karl (54) and Austrian Konrad Laimer (74).

This marks the second victory for the Bavarian club in the continental competition and the first after two consecutive draws, raising its tally to 8 points in eighth place and reviving its hopes of securing a spot among the top eight who guarantee direct qualification to the round of 16.

On the other hand, Atletico Madrid, second in the Spanish league, continued its fluctuating continental performances, as its tally froze at 4 points in 20th place.

Players observed a minute of silence before kickoff in mourning over the death of Spanish second-tier Tenerife player Jesús de Miguel following a violent collision with the opposing goalkeeper on Monday, and the Champions League anthem was not played in mourning for the train accident in Orda that claimed the lives of 69 people.
