Al-Taj News – US federal authorities have filed charges against an Oklahoma man on suspicion of sending hundreds of letters containing white powder and threats to election officials, members of Congress, and other entities ahead of the 2024 and 2026 elections.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation said, in a court document unsealed on Tuesday, that investigators believe more than 700 letters are linked to the same sender, while tests showed that the powders analyzed were yeast or flour, and not all letters have been fully examined.
The defendant, Robin Martin, faces two charges related to sending materials conveying a hoax and mailing threatening communications.
He was arrested on Monday and was expected to appear before a federal court in Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Electronic court records did not show the name of an attorney representing him to contact regarding the charges.
Federal authorities had announced, last month, an investigation into letters bearing “suspicious substances” that arrived at the offices of members of Congress and election offices across the country, urging recipients to treat them as materials that could pose a danger.
