Axios: Trump advisers see an opportunity for Washington’s agenda in the Middle East away from Netanyahu

Al-Taj News – The American website “Axios” said, on Saturday, that advisers to American President Donald Trump see an opportunity to advance Washington’s agenda in the Middle East through an Israeli government led by someone other than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite Trump’s endorsement of the latter in the Israeli elections scheduled for Tuesday.

According to the “Axios” report, a number of senior advisers to Trump opposed his decision to endorse Netanyahu, considering that the American president should have avoided intervening in the Israeli elections, amid growing differences regarding the Israeli government’s handling of a number of regional files.

The report pointed out that Trump has not worked with any Israeli prime minister other than Netanyahu, and has no personal acquaintance with the other candidates, while the relationship between them was characterized by closeness, alongside periods of tension.

The report stated that Trump announced his endorsement of Netanyahu last Sunday, after weeks of hesitation, and hinted that the latter’s loss could have repercussions on American-Israeli relations.
