“Industry and Trade”: Ma’an Dry Port to Reduce Shipping and Storage Costs and Strengthen Supply Chain Flows

Al-Taj News – Assistant Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Qusai bin Mustafa said that the Ma’an Dry Port is one of the key projects within the governorate’s future development plan, noting that the project aims to ease pressure on the Port of Aqaba and facilitate trade movement to neighboring countries.

Bin Mustafa added that connecting Ma’an with the city of Aqaba and the railway line, alongside establishing logistical facilities, would serve the surrounding area and enhance investment and employment opportunities, noting that Ma’an is connected to various neighboring Arab countries through major roads.

He explained that the actual launch of projects related to this approach will begin at the start of next year, with implementation to follow successively, stressing that the government will give this issue attention and care and will work to complete it “as quickly as possible.”

Bin Mustafa noted that the dry port will help ease pressure on the Port of Aqaba and reduce storage and shipping costs by shortening the periods during which imported goods remain at the port.

He said that faster customs clearance and the transportation of goods through the dry port to Ma’an will reduce the time they remain at the Port of Aqaba and increase the volume of cargo handled there, which will reduce ground storage charges and other logistical costs, thereby lowering the overall costs for warehouse operators and ultimately benefiting consumers.
