Washington Post: $10 Billion in Operating Costs for U.S. Forces in War with Iran

Al-Taj News – The Washington Post reported, citing a document it had reviewed, that the operating costs of the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and ground forces during the war with Iran exceeded $10 billion, including more than $6.6 billion for the Air Force, about $2.2 billion for the Navy, and $1.6 billion for ground forces.

In a broader figure, the U.S. Congressional Budget Office estimated the cost of the war to the Department of Defense at approximately $38 billion through August 1, with an average monthly cost ranging between $2 billion and $3 billion, depending on the intensity of military operations.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had estimated in July that the war had cost $37.5 billion.

The Congressional Budget Office noted that the costs include replenishing ammunition and equipment lost in the fighting, in addition to higher fuel costs for the military and other expenses.

The office warned that costs could rise further if violence escalates, explaining that its analysis was prepared at the request of Democratic lawmakers.

Economically, the office estimated that the main impact of the conflict would be inflationary pressures resulting from disruptions in oil and natural gas prices following Tehran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
