U.S. Embassy Warns Its Citizens in Saudi Arabia of Multiple Risks

Al-Taj News – The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh raised its travel advisory level to Level Three due to the risk of American interests being targeted by Iranian drones and missiles, as well as armed conflict and the threat of terrorism.

The U.S. State Department advised its citizens to reconsider their travel plans to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and classified the situation as Level Three, while prohibiting travel to areas along the border with Yemen, which it classified as Level Four.

As part of preventive measures, the embassy imposed movement restrictions on its government employees, prohibiting them from entering areas near the Yemeni border and banning non-essential travel to Al-Qatif Governorate. It also required special permits to visit the areas of Jizan, Asir, and Najran.

The embassy warned of the risks associated with travel bans, which may prevent U.S. citizens from leaving the Kingdom due to civil or criminal cases or disputes. It also pointed to strict local laws concerning social media activity, noting that posts or comments of a critical nature or that affect public order may lead to arrest and imprisonment for periods of up to 45 years, even if such comments are posted from outside the Kingdom.

The embassy urged citizens currently in the Kingdom to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive updates, review the country’s security reports, and monitor local media, while stressing the need to obtain prior approvals for prescribed medications.
