Trump Refuses to Reveal His Position on Potential Sanctions Against Chinese Banks

Al-Taj News – U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that he is not obligated to announce whether the U.S. administration will impose sanctions on Chinese banks that do business with Iran.

Trump told reporters at the White House: “Who said I won’t?”

He added: “You don’t know anything about that, and I’m not obligated to announce everything, right?”

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had announced on August 24 that Washington was tightening unilateral sanctions on Iran, hoping to completely cut off Tehran’s sources of income.

Bessent confirmed that the United States is prepared to impose secondary sanctions on any country that refuses to comply with the new restrictions imposed on Iran, and also threatened to cut off these countries’ access to the dollar.

In response, when asked why Washington had not taken immediate action against Iran’s trading partners, Bessent said he hoped to avoid confrontation because he did not want to “blow up the global financial system.”
