Al-Taj News – Egypt announced on Wednesday its categorical and decisive rejection of dragging the name of the Sinai Peninsula into statements issued by the Minister of Finance in Tel Aviv, Bezalel Smotrich, describing them as hollow threats targeting electoral gains and purposes.
This position came in Cairo’s first official comment following the minister in Tel Aviv’s claim to the ultra-Orthodox website HaTziplaḥ, saying: “If they attack us, there will be no Sinai, at least, but that will not happen again.”
The official Middle East News Agency quoted an informed source as saying that Cairo completely rejects these claims, which were launched coinciding with Egyptians’ celebrations of the 53rd anniversary of the October 1973 victory, an occasion that confirms, beyond any doubt, Egypt’s right and full ability to preserve its territories and protect its independence and sovereignty against any potential danger.
The source stressed that these statements issued by Smotrich during the past two days constitute an overt attempt to use escalation-oriented language devoid of substance for propaganda and electoral purposes.
The Egyptian source stressed that the international community is well aware of the responsibility of the occupation authorities for making living conditions in the Gaza Strip nearly impossible, in an effort to push the residents and population to leave their lands and liquidate the Palestinian cause, affirming that Egypt rejects this scenario entirely and will never participate in it.
