Al-Taj News – Nabil Al-Jariri, City Manager at the Greater Amman Municipality, said that the Municipality is working to develop a traffic control unit and use modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, to help address congestion in the capital, alongside studying the possibility of introducing toll roads.
Al-Jariri explained on Tuesday that addressing congestion is not limited to constructing roads and developing infrastructure, but also includes monitoring, follow-up, and strengthening compliance with traffic regulations.
He indicated that the Municipality is working to collect data through cameras that will be deployed at various locations across the capital, with the aim of monitoring the number of vehicles and analyzing traffic movement, which will help prepare accurate studies to identify locations experiencing traffic pressure and select appropriate solutions.
Regarding the introduction of toll roads, Al-Jariri confirmed that the Municipality is studying this option, stipulating that free alternative roads be provided for citizens before proceeding with its implementation.
He pointed out that providing free alternatives represents a fundamental condition for introducing these roads, while studies related to this approach are still ongoing.
