Trump: Ukraine Needs a New President Who Is Willing to Agree to End the War

Al-Taj News – U.S. President Donald Trump called on Saturday for new leadership to be chosen in Ukraine, criticized his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and urged him to stop targeting Russian oil refineries, according to Reuters.

“He’d better stop that,” Trump told reporters at the White House, one day after announcing that he had reached an agreement allowing Russia to supply diesel to global markets.

Referring to Zelenskyy, he said, “I suggest they choose a new leader who is capable of reaching an agreement.”

On Friday, Zelenskyy criticized the announcement of a U.S.-Russian agreement on diesel supplies, warning of its implications for the war between Moscow and Kyiv.

He affirmed that Ukraine was ready to take reciprocal steps to de-escalate tensions, while warning that “giving gifts to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will not bring peace,” as he put it.
