Early Endings and Sudden Rises… The Turkish Drama Season Turns Expectations Upside Down

Al-Taj News – Not much time had passed since the launch of the new Turkish drama season before some expectations began to change. Productions that entered the screen amid great fanfare failed to prove their presence, while others needed only a few episodes to attract attention and enter the competition strongly, despite not being among the top expectations before the season began.

The surprises are not limited to viewership ratings, but also concern the speed of the decisions made regarding some series, compared with the rapid rise of new productions, and the ability of series that have continued for several seasons to retain their place amid a landscape that changes from one week to the next.

“A.B.İ”.. The Reunion of Kenan and Bergüzar Could Not Withstand the Numbers

“A.B.İ” was one of the productions that generated the most anticipation before the launch of its second season, not only because of the success of its first season, but also because of the reunion of Kenan İmirzalıoğlu with Bergüzar Korel after 11 years. However, the new beginning did not receive the expected momentum, as the series achieved disappointing viewership ratings in all three categories.

Following these results, it was decided to end the series at the fifth episode of its second season, bringing to an end one of the productions most heavily relied upon at the beginning of the season, in a surprise that was not related to the absence of stars or the prominence of the names involved, but rather to the production’s inability to regain the momentum that accompanied the announcement of its new season.

“Love and the Throne”.. A Historical Bet That Failed to Find Its Audience

The second surprise came with “Love and the Throne,” starring Akın Akınözü, as the production faced difficulty attracting viewers from its first episodes. The series recorded a low viewership rating in its early episodes before declining further the following week.

After only five episodes, it was decided to end the production, quickly entering the list of series that were unable to continue competing in the new season.

What is notable here is that the series was not given a longer opportunity, as its fate was decided only a few weeks after its launch, at a time when other productions were still trying to raise their numbers and establish their position on the new map.

“Mehmed the Conqueror”.. Big Production Faces the Viewership Test

The surprises did not stop at series that ended early, but also included productions that had been expected to have a stronger presence in the competition.

“Mehmed the Conqueror” returned for its fourth season, but its new beginning came with a low viewership rating, and the production was unable to achieve the presence that had been expected of it.

With the following episodes, the decline increased, leaving the series in a lower position in the viewership rankings, facing a new series that at the same time began to impose itself strongly on the landscape.

The irony is that “Mehmed the Conqueror” does not face a problem with the scale of its production or the presence of the historical figure, but rather with its ability to attract viewers amid a season that has seen new productions enter the competition strongly and appear ready to take the audience away from series that had more firmly established positions. Nevertheless, there is no announced decision to end it so far, but it is certain that it is on its way to stopping.

“Love in the Ashes”.. The Surprise That Turned Expectations Upside Down

Among the new productions that entered the Turkish season this year is the series “Love in the Ashes,” or as it became known in Arabic, “Your Love Is Fire,” starring Murat Ünalmış and Özge Özacar.
