Launch of World Space Week 2026 in Jordan

Al-Taj News – World Space Week 2026 activities kicked off in Jordan on Sunday, continuing until October 10, under the theme “Rocket Revolution,” as part of a diverse national program that brings together education, training, astronomical observation, scientific research, and student creativity.

The President of the Jordanian Astronomical Society and Coordinator of World Space Week in Jordan at the World Space Week International Association, Ammar Al-Sakji, said that the program aims to spread astronomical and space culture in Jordanian society, enhance scientific, critical, and creative thinking among students, qualify teachers, and expand the participation of schools, universities, and scientific institutions in World Space Week activities.

He explained that the selection of the period from October 4 to 10 is linked to two historic milestones in the course of space exploration; October 4 marks the anniversary of the launch of “Sputnik-1” in 1957, the first human-made satellite, while October 10 is associated with the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which established a fundamental international legal framework for the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.

The Jordanian program includes an educational and training component in coordination with the Ministry of Education, with the participation of physics and earth sciences teachers from dozens of schools across the Kingdom’s various governorates, with the aim of transforming concepts of rockets, orbits, satellites, and space sciences into educational and interactive activities that can be implemented with students.

Member of the World Space Week Committee at the Jordanian Astronomical Society, Ahmad Al-Daqs, said that the program also includes a national student competition focusing on solving scientific problems and preparing research, presentations, and applications, in addition to designing models simulating spacecraft missions, building rocket models, conducting launch experiments, and documenting their stages and results.
