Trump Denies Axios Report That He Offered to Ease Sanctions on Iran

Al-Taj News – U.S. President Donald Trump denied Monday that he had offered Iran sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds.

Trump said via Truth Social that Axios had published a report “claiming that he offered Iran sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds. This is not true.”

He added that the report, “like most of the other reports, is pure fabrication, and is used only to satisfy their pathological obsession with being against me, what is known as ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome.’ They must immediately retract this false story.”

Axios had quoted a U.S. official on Monday as saying that Trump was prepared to grant Iran sanctions relief and release frozen Iranian funds in exchange for tangible progress on the nuclear file.

This comes as mediators intensify efforts to revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran, amid disagreements over the nuclear program, U.S. sanctions, and the status of the Strait of Hormuz.

A knowledgeable official said mediators are expected to hold separate talks with the United States and Iran on Monday or Tuesday, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Qatari mediators remain in the United States.

The official added that the talks are expected to focus on a revised version of the seven-day proposal put forward by Iran on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.
