Al-Taj News – Al Ahly scored one goal in each half to defeat Zamalek 2-0 in the 133rd Cairo derby in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.
Captain Mohamed Hany put Al Ahly ahead in the 39th minute with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area. The ball changed direction after hitting a defender before settling in the net past Zamalek goalkeeper El Mahdi Soliman.
Algerian substitute Monsef Bekrar added the second goal with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area, to the right of Zamalek goalkeeper El Mahdi Soliman.
Al Ahly topped the league standings with 16 points, one point ahead of Pyramids, who host Ceramica Cleopatra on Sunday, while Zamalek remained on 13 points in third place.
Al Ahly had a dangerous chance in the ninth minute when Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” advanced down the right flank and sent in a powerful cross that Sofiane Benjdida met with a first-time effort over the crossbar.
