Saudi Arabia Defeats Kuwait to Top Group A in the Gulf Cup

Al-Taj News – Saudi Arabia topped Group A in the Gulf Cup football tournament “Gulf 27” after defeating Kuwait 1-0, while the opening match between Iraq and Oman ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Saudi national team’s goal came in the 73rd minute, after Hummam Al-Hammami broke into the penalty area and fired a shot that struck defender Yousef Al-Haqan, changing its direction and finding the back of the net.

The first half ended goalless after the referee disallowed a goal scored by Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat in the 37th minute due to a foul that occurred before the goal. On the other hand, Mohammed Daham came close to scoring for Kuwait with a shot that went just wide of the post shortly before halftime.

The Saudi national team continued its attempts in the second half until it managed to take the lead, before the match was stopped for several minutes due to an injury to goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi, who left the field and was replaced by Mohammed Al-Owais.

The hosts maintained their lead until the final whistle, despite ten minutes of added time being awarded, securing their first three points in their campaign to reclaim the title that has been absent since 2003.
