Al-Taj News – The Council of Church Leaders in Jordan, on behalf of all churches and their faithful members, extends its thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan, and the members of the Council of Ministers, for the deep understanding and sincere interest they have shown in issues affecting the lives of Christian citizens, and for their response to the demands submitted by the Council of Church Leaders in Jordan regarding the amendments to the Law on Christian Denominations Councils of 2014, culminating in the approval of the draft amended Law on Christian Denominations Councils for 2026 and its referral to the National Assembly to complete its constitutional stages.
The Council said in a statement on Sunday, “We view this important national step with great appreciation, as it embodies the keenness of the Jordanian state, under its wise Hashemite leadership, to safeguard the rights of all its citizens, respect their religious particularities, and strengthen the principles of citizenship, justice, and equality, under the rule of law and institutions.”
The Council of Church Leaders in Jordan affirmed that Christians in Jordan are not a minority separate from the fabric of society; rather, they are an integral and deeply rooted part of the history, identity, and journey of this homeland, members of its tribes and families, and partners in its construction, renaissance, and the protection of its achievements. Jordanian citizenship is the unifying foundation under which rights and duties are equal, and through which the values of national unity and coexistence are firmly established.
The Council appreciated the spirit of cooperation and consensus that prevailed among the Christian churches during the work on preparing the proposed amendments, which resulted in reaching a unified law on wills, inheritance, and adoption among the churches, which responds to the needs and aspirations of our children, achieving greater stability and reassurance in their family and household affairs.
It said, “As we express our pride in this step, we look forward, with full confidence, to the National Assembly, in both its Senate and House of Representatives, continuing its national and legislative role in approving the draft amended Law on Christian Denominations Councils for 2026 in accordance with constitutional procedures, in preparation for its entry into force.”
The statement noted, “On this occasion, we extend our thanks and appreciation to all those who contributed to completing this work, from official, ecclesiastical, and legal bodies, and everyone who made a sincere effort to reach this consensus, affirming that what has been achieved is the result of joint cooperation and constructive dialogue.”
