12,000 Researchers Begin Field Count of the Population

Al-Taj News – The actual field enumeration for the 2026 General Census of Population and Housing began on Sunday and will continue until the end of October, with the participation of around 12,000 field researchers across the 12 governorates within three regions.

Each researcher is responsible for one or two statistical blocks. A block is a statistical neighborhood with electronic boundaries using the Global Positioning System (GPS).

The researcher uses mapping technology to reach the home, then knocks on the door to conduct the enumeration.

The form is filled out in front of the home, inside it, or outside it, according to what the citizen deems appropriate. If the person is not present, the researcher agrees with the respondent, whether the head of the household or the person who answers the door, on another time for the visit.

Visits are conducted throughout the month and on all days of the week, including Friday and Saturday, during both the morning and evening periods, depending on the area and the prevailing circumstances there.

Visit schedules can also be adjusted according to weather conditions, while taking into account differences in residents’ waking and sleeping times between the governorates, including Aqaba.

The self-enumeration process began on Thursday and continued through Saturday, covering 170,000 households that had been identified in advance and met the conditions for self-enumeration, after the Department of Statistics began identifying households wishing to participate in this process from February of last year through July of the current year.
