Al-Taj News – The Court of Appeal in Créteil, southeast of Paris, ruled Saturday to increase the sentence handed down against Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred to 10 years in prison, with an order for his immediate detention, after convicting him of raping a French woman, with the aggravating circumstance that he was under the influence of alcohol in 2016.
The sentence is harsher than the initial ruling issued by the Paris Criminal Court in 2023, which sentenced him to six years in prison, while the defense team of the 41-year-old artist confirmed that he remains committed to his innocence and will appeal the decision before the Court of Cassation.
The plaintiff’s lawyers said the harsher sentence came as a result of the defense’s “aggressive strategy” and its systematic questioning of the victim’s statements.
It is worth noting that Lamjarred is also facing another five-year prison sentence issued by the Criminal Court of the Var region last May in another rape case near Saint-Tropez in 2018. He also appealed that ruling, while the case saw five other people convicted of attempting to extort €3 million from the singer in exchange for withdrawing the complaint.
