Jordan’s Representative to the United Nations Affirms the Need to Support UNRWA and Ensure Unhindered Access for Aid to Palestinians

Al-Taj News – Jordan’s Representative to the United Nations, Walid Obeidat, affirmed the Kingdom’s call to consolidate the ceasefire plan in Gaza, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2803.

Obeidat stressed, during the United Nations Security Council discussion on the Palestinian issue, the need to ensure unhindered access for aid and support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

He also stressed the need to halt illegal Israeli measures in Jerusalem and the West Bank, including the E1 frontline, in order to protect the two-state solution.

The United Nations Security Council had adopted Resolution No. 2803, submitted by the United States of America, which authorizes the establishment of a temporary international stabilization force in the Gaza Strip, with 13 members voting in favor and Russia and China abstaining.

The resolution welcomes the 20-point plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the conflict in Gaza, issued on September 29, 2025.

The resolution stated that, following the faithful implementation of the Palestinian Authority’s reform program and progress in the redevelopment process in Gaza, “conditions may finally be in place to establish a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood.”

The resolution included support for the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza and a call for its full implementation, including maintaining the ceasefire in good faith and without delay.

It also welcomed the establishment of the Board of Peace as a transitional administration with international legal personality, tasked with setting the framework and coordinating funding for the redevelopment of Gaza in accordance with the comprehensive plan and the relevant principles of international law, until the Palestinian Authority satisfactorily completes its reform program, enabling it to regain control of Gaza in a safe and effective manner.

The resolution noted that the implementation of the Palestinian Authority’s reform program and progress in the redevelopment of Gaza could help establish a credible pathway toward self-determination and the establishment of a Palestinian state. It also stipulated that the United States would establish a dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians to agree on a political horizon for peaceful and prosperous coexistence.

The resolution stressed the importance of the full resumption of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, in cooperation with the Board of Peace and through cooperating organizations, including the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the Red Crescent, while ensuring that aid is used exclusively for peaceful purposes and preventing its diversion by armed groups.
