Al-Taj News – The intention is to settle, before the middle of the current week, the date for the convening of the ordinary session of the Jordanian Parliament, which is constitutionally expected to convene before the beginning of next November, as part of the new constitutional season.
According to the available information, the options regarding the date of the session are limited to calling for it to convene on October 25, instead of at the beginning of the month, a timing considered most suitable for the government in light of considerations related to its legislative priorities.
A series of files and priorities are expected to be on the legislative agenda during the upcoming session, foremost among them the draft amended Social Security Law and the draft General Budget Law.
Meanwhile, it has not yet been decided whether Prime Minister Jafar Hassan intends to carry out a third cabinet reshuffle of his team. If the decision is made, the timing of the reshuffle remains subject to two options: the first is to recommend and carry out the reshuffle before the session convenes, and the second is to recommend it after the session convenes.
Several reports had indicated that Hassan was considering adding five centrist party figures to his team, as part of signaling that his government is concerned with strengthening the political modernization process.
In contrast, observations regarding the performance of the government and its team continue to circulate on the sidelines of the scene, some of them issued by official and sovereign authorities.
At the same time, the balance of the Senate is expected to be settled before the end of October, with a Royal Decree expected to be issued renewing the term of the Senate presidency, while veteran politician Faisal Al-Fayez will most likely remain in his position.
Regarding membership of the Council, some estimates have begun to favor very limited changes that may not exceed three or four seats. They may be limited to appointing former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, retired Major General Yousef Al-Huneiti, as a member of the Senate, to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of former Finance Minister Mohammad Al-Issis, who left his position to assume his new duties as Dean of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the School of Business at the American University in Cairo.
Options regarding vacant Senate seats remain multiple, with possibilities ranging from filling only the current vacancies to carrying out a reshuffle at the membership level.
All these files and the questions associated with them are expected to be settled before October 1, according to what was reported by “Rai Al-Youm”.
