Transport in Jordan: 2.7 Million Passengers and New Projects to Strengthen Connectivity Between Governorates

Al-Taj News – Over the past two years, the transport and logistics sector has seen the implementation of projects and programs to expand public transport between governorates, develop roads and airports, regulate transport services through smart applications, and modernize the freight fleet and its operational systems, alongside the completion of the necessary studies and procedures for new projects linking production areas with ports and supporting trade flows.

These interventions were distributed among services that entered operation, completed maintenance and rehabilitation works, and projects whose requirements are still being finalized, as part of an effort aimed at improving citizens’ mobility and access to education, healthcare services, and employment, while enhancing the efficiency of freight transport and logistics services in the governorates.

In the area of regular public transport between governorates, 11 routes out of 19 routes connecting 10 governorates were put into operation, using 340 buses equipped with smart transport systems. The project recorded approximately 2.7 million passengers during the period from June 21, 2025, to August 31, 2026, according to project data.

During the same period, the project’s buses completed approximately 230,000 trips, covering nearly 12 million kilometers, while government support for the project amounted to 5 million dinars. The system included the establishment of companies to organize passenger queues and the provision of more than 15 card-recharging points, in addition to nine routes serving King Hussein Medical City from the governorates.
